As You Are Nutrition Has a New Look!

As You Are Nutrition has a new look—but the same gentle, inclusive and supportive approach to nutrition therapy.  Check it out!

Traditional nutritional counseling focuses on weight and involves a one-size-fits-all approach with portion control, will-power, and basic education on nutrients (MyPlate and food models anyone?).  At As You Are Nutrition, we know from research and personal experience that this just does not work and often contributes to negative relationships with food and body image.

My favorite feedback to receive from clients is “I thought I was going to feel judged but instead I felt heard and supported”.  So let me explain how we create this experience.

Medical nutrition therapy is one-on-one counseling for the purpose of disease/disorder management & prevention.  We take this definition a step further and root our nutrition counseling in self-compassion & personal choice.  We do this by being weight-neutral instead of making scale-based goals.  We promote freedom in food choices instead of restrictive diets.  We believe food is nourishing, enjoyable, social, and a way to express one’s culture & individuality.  We can use food as a gentle way to support healing and/or decrease risk of chronic disease/health complications.

Bottom line is that we do our best to put you in the driver’s seat of your health.  We may be the co-pilot with a map and a flashlight but YOU are the only person who knows your body, your preferences, your symptoms, your genetics, your culture, your schedule, your identity, your lived experience… the list goes on. You are the expert of your body.

This is how our logo came to be, featuring YOU at the center with a self-hug for all the self-compassion we hope to cultivate in sessions.

Our final passion is making accessing care from experienced dietitians more affordable for everyone by partnering with insurance companies.  We hope to bridge the wide gap in access to care and be inclusive to all people groups.

We specialize in eating disorder recovery, healing relationships with food, chronic dieting, diabetes (all types), PCOS, body image, pediatric/family nutrition, digestive health and general wellness.
